The Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) manages Victoria’s natural and built environments to create and maintain liveable, inclusive and sustainable communities. We do this in a way that protects our natural assets and supports a growing economy while meeting the challenges of climate change and population growth.
DELWP takes an integrated approach to meeting the needs of Victorian communities and the environment through decision making and initiatives that reflect the connectivity between our portfolios of Environment, Energy and Climate Change, Water and Catchments, Planning, Local Infrastructure, Forest, Fire and Regions and Corporate Services.
We recognise the link between the built and natural environment in the quality of our lives, and work to accommodate population growth while maintaining world class liveability and protecting our heritage for future generations.
The Bureau of Meteorology is Australia's national weather, climate and water agency. Its expertise and services assist Australians in dealing with the harsh realities of their natural environment, including drought, floods, fires, storms, tsunami and tropical cyclones. Through regular forecasts, warnings, monitoring and advice spanning the Australian region and Antarctic territory, the Bureau provides one of the most fundamental and widely used services of government.
The Bureau contributes to national social, economic, cultural and environmental goals by providing observational, meteorological, hydrological and oceanographic services and by undertaking research into science and environment related issues in support of its operations and services.
Funded by the Australian Government, owned and operated by CSIRO on behalf of the nation under direction of an independent Steering Committee, the Marine National Facility (MNF) provides a blue-water research capability to the Australian research community and their international collaborators. The MNF comprises: the ocean class Research Vessel Investigator; a package of scientific equipment and instrumentation; a collection of marine data collected since the MNF’s inception; and the expertise required to manage an ocean-going research platform and support vessel users.
The research delivered from MNF voyages provides critical information to directly support government, industry and other stakeholders in making evidence-based decisions to ensure the long-term viability and prosperity of the Australian marine environment and industries.
